    • you get more points, i dont see why people are so angry about that? makes perfect sense to me that this is a good thing? just shop as you normally do and dont think about it
Points for redemption are also going up. I'm fine with the changes because I buy for multiple people at a time and always get some varying amount of food too, but I can see the disappointment for people who buy a single coffee each time and that's all they get.

They usually run $1 coffee a lot, I order through the app for the points anyways. Almost at 10k now.

    • Moving from a points per visit to a points per dollar spent is a great move. Always bothered me how if I got lunch for me and my parents at Tims for ~ $20 I'd get the same 10 points (aside from any bonuses) that I would get when I am just getting a coffee for myself in the morning on the way to work $1.97.

However, the devaluation is indeed disappointing. It's clear that they are attempting to reward their higher spending customers better which makes good business sense but for the person who only gets a coffee this is a nasty devaluation as you will have to spend $40 for a free coffee when currently you're getting a free coffee after spending only ~ $14 (7 x $2 for a large coffee).

    • and just like that - Starbucks is changing theirs too!

Free coffee is 100 stars (but now includes iced) - so basically spend $50!

and a latte/refresher/frap/cold brew is 200 stars - so basically spend $100! (was spend $75)

save the time and money spent at these joints.

Yes get up few mins earlier and make your coffee to go.

      They have already done it

    • Agree with you OP.

Will be redeeming my current points and off to McDonald’s I go from now on.

      Better coffee anyways.
McD’s castrated their program about a year ago.

    • From a corporate standpoint, have they actually figured out how to toast a bagel? I want my breakfast bagel sandwich toasted. Not burnt to a crisp around the edges. Not kind of sort of warmed. Just a normal everyday Joe kind of toast.

Until they sort this out, they win - at losing.
This! I order double toasted and it's no different than "toasted" hardly brown at all. Triple, and it burns, specifically the edges.

    • Try the Tim Hortons Sausage n egg on an everything bagel.....that is a winner imho. Get it cut in half makes a bit easier to grasp and hold.

    • Coffee is a long standing argument which I'm not going to touch but breakfast sandwich?
I don't think I've ever had food there that was even remotely good, let alone best in class.

I had what amounts to a sausage McMuffin at Tim's and it was awful. And this was after the "new" egg too.
But that was within the last couple years.

    • I still expect lot of canadian people to lineup to pay for their crap. They didn’t have rewards programs before so its back to normal.

Anyone giving out free stuff at business/franchise on a DAILY basis is losing money!!
      Thats common sense.

Keep lining up for shitty coffee and junkfood.
Drive-thru and stores still gonna have lineups
Because ppl too lazy to invest and use thermos daily

    • Tim Hortons went from being the BEST coffee and breakfast sandwich retailer in Canada to absolute TRASH within the last few years. One thing that was good for them as a company was going from fresh donuts to donuts made in a factory and frozen, reheated in store with the glazing added. As a customer reheated frozen donut pucks are terrible, not very many people these days realize how wonderful a freshly made donut tastes like a small piece of heaven. Tim Hortons was so successful that they revolutionized the industry, most other shops went out of business and once there was very little competition they started taking their customers for granted.

I stopped going to Tim Hortons a couple of years ago when they released their App and started spying on everyone's location data even when their App was not active. When their App was upgraded i always found it to be lacking compared to other retailers, and getting rid of the physical roll up the rim cups was a real disservice to their valued customers especially older generation who may not necessarily have smartphones.

This new points scheme is garbage, not going to go far in gaining the trust and value added impression of their customers.

Just another FAIL by Tim Hortons, unfortunately not many alternatives seeing most other competitors have shut down or shuttered most of their locations. A real shame, we may be stuck with Tims now as the primary and most expansive franchise but i don't believe their goodwill or community stellar reputation remains.

    • I can see the hate on from those who buy 1 coffee a day. But I hated that I would go buy breakfast for the family on a Saturday and still only get 10 points so I like this change. As for the 12 month thing, well, this is a loyalty program. If you aren't spending 30 bucks in a year to get their basic freebie, you aren't the type of customer they are worrying about.

    • Makes you wonder if they know McD’s is about to do something similar - otherwise, this seems ridiculous.
While I'm not a regular coffee drinker so never amassed hot drink stickers, but didn't McDonalds kill their sticker program (including digital) in favor of their points system?

If so, this mimics McDonald's system kinda.
$20 spend = 1 free coffee at McDonalds.
My anger is already in place with their stupid so called 12 month use it or lose it policy.
When I am earning points, I should be allowed to keep them!!
What is the point in earning points if they're just going to go away long before I can earn enough for anything good.
It's a useless stupid point system.
Just give me a free cup after the 6th cup already. Enough with a BS point system
telling me I can earn enough points for a free sandwich...but I can't because points will delete before I can earn enough to do so.
Usually I'm the first one to shit on Tim's but this is inline with some loyalty programs.

      Here's McDonald's for me:

I also hate the "use what you earned" types. At least keep the rolling balance active if you've earned within the last X months/years or whatever.

    • Any remaining points balance before Feb 21 will transition over with a 6.2x multiplier. Any earned points up to that point are somewhat protected from the devaluation at the beginning of the program. So the redemption rate is on par with the new rate on those multiplied points.

    • My husband goes to Tim's EVERY SINGLE workday (5). It is part of his routine (mental health) - makes him feel good.

I am not sure what we can do to replace it. There is not a McD's in about 8 km.
But I don't feel like we can continue as is.
It was already expensive - very expensive - but I felt it was necessary.

Used to get free coffee every 7 mediums (13.65$)
It will now be free coffee after 21!! Coffee’s?

    • Will they change the hockey points too?

30 points for 1 correct pick instead of 5?

Right now, if you get 1 correct hockey pick a day, it would take 10 single day correct picks to get a donut, 28 for a frozen drink, or 36 for soup.

In order to have the same weight added, you'd need 30 points per correct single pick.

(example: old free coffee 70 pts. New free coffee 400 pts. Your old 70 points prior will now be worth slightly more at 434 pts after the transition. So no rush claiming the free items, just start racking up as many points as possible in the next 2 months for the multiplier transition)

From Feb 21 and on, earning new points will not be worth it for the people that just buy coffee or tea daily. It's only kinda beneficial for people that spend a lot more than just coffee.

    • Complete garbage. Very disappointing.

I will rarely go to that restaurant starting next year.

It's really stupid knowing that they waste a lot of food daily (like unwanted donuts and muffins). They can give those things away but no. If we ain't gonna make money off of it, gotta throw it all away, right? Stupid, stupid...

    • I don't go to Tim's too often, but wouldn't the devaluation ultimately depend on your spending habits at Tim's? For example, if you're the guy who does the coffee run for the office or if you regularly buy a lunch trio, this isn't as bad as if you only buy a coffee?
    • Yup…..just read the T&Cs. I would get one coffee for every seven. Now I need to buy twenty for the same reward. Will be brewing my own at home simply to avoid Tim’s greed. The devaluation is insane. And I love how they present it as new and better rewards program……
